Marilyn Baronabout this book: I coauthored THE EDGER with my sister, award-winning artist, Sharon Goldman of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, where this story is set. Sharon designed the cover artwork and created the line drawings and paintings used throughout the book. Her experience as an artist lends credibility to the project, which features two artists as the hero and heroine. The cover artwork is based on her painting, "Backyard Lagoon," which is also featured in the book and can be seen on the home page of her Web site. It is a painting of her own backyard, and she used her husband as the model for the shirtless hero featured on the cover of the book.
Before it was published, THE EDGER received first place in the Suspense Romance category of the 2010 Ignite the Flame Contest, sponsored by the Central Ohio Fiction Writers chapter of Romance Writers of America (RWA).
RT Book Reviews gives The Edger its highest rating— 4 ½ stars—and says, "Baron and Goldman offer a bit of everything in this superb novel. There's humor, infidelity, murder, mayhem, and a neatly drawn conclusion."
Although THE EDGER tackles some serious themes, such as homelessness and unemployment, the book is a humorous take on a woman who copes with a crumbling marriage and a cheating husband. It has something for everyone.
We chose THE EDGER as the title for a variety of reasons. The hero, once-celebrated Italian artist, Nick Anselmo, is actually the heroine's lawn man. He uses the edger as a tool and it is also the murder weapon. Nick is now homeless and lives on the edges or fringes of society.
Everyone who reads the book says The Edger would make a great movie and suggest George Clooney for the lead, as The Edger. Our hands-down favorite scene and the favorite for most readers is the gallery opening scene where Alex, who has arranged for Nick to have a comeback art exhibition, finally realizes her husband is cheating on her with the gallery owner.
