Tony Nashabout this book: This, the third book in the 'Mayhem in Norfolk' series, was spawned from several different simultaneous occurrences. I'd just taken my first Greek holiday, and, as always before going to a new country, I'd spent a few months learning enough of the language to be able to get to know the locals and enjoy the time spent in the country much better than as a simple tourist. Hence the opening chapter of the book, which is largely set in that country, and the first character (and soon to be victim of the killer), John Mann, sitting on his fishing boat (as I had done, with a new Greek friend), catching the local fish. The second part of the inspiration came from an article I read in the newspaper, concerning criminal activity by quite senior police officers in the Met, and the third was another article, this time concerning the Mafia. I began writing with just the one criminal character in mind, but as usual the plot and sub-plots developed and expanded, seemingly of their own volition, into a coherent, enjoyable and believable entity. DCI Tony Dyce, the Norfolk Constabulary's chief murder investigator, has an intriguing case to solve.
