Book: The Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch - Stories about and surrounding the life of comedies most sacred relic by Mathew Hortoncategories: Book, Holy Hand Grenade, Rabbit of Caerbannog, Holy Grail, Movie Prop, Special Effects, Monty Python
Mathew Hortonabout this book: The Holy Handgrenade is arguably the most iconic comedy movie prop of all time. It was made from a toilet plunger by special effects designer John Horton who did single handedly all the effects on Monty Python and the Holy Grail. John started with the Pythons at the BBC and worked on 'Monty Pythons Flying Circus' and their first film 'And Now For Something Completely Different' . It was on 'The Holy Grail' that he engineered some of the most memorable effects including the killer rabbit scene and de-limbing the Black Knight. This book is full of stories of his times with the Pythons and includes a short biography of his interesting but ill fated life. Mathew Horton takes up the story with thoughts and anecdotes from his thirty years in the film industry and to the penning of the epic poem 'The Woe of Roanoke'. It is a small book but packed with humour, sadness, searing honesty and poems.
