Lawrence D. Elliottabout this book: In May of 2011, I decided to return to Germany, after being away from this enchanted land since the mid-1980's. My German language skills were literally a shell of my past proficiency, but no worries. I'd taken four years of it in school and lived in country for almost four years, too. I'd be able to pick up right where I left off, right?
German is one of the most difficult languages in the world. It has very strict grammatical rules, noun genders can make no sense at all, pronunciation could leave your tongue in knots, and just the capitalization of a word can change the entire meaning.
And then, there are those many, many dialects each region (or even each town) has. They often neither look nor sound like they're even related to the German language.
Yes, one wrong slip of the tongue, misspoken word, or erroneous substitution for one noun form over another and you'll find yourself in a pretty embarrassing situation. And that's exactly what happens to me! I mean…A LOT!
After reviewing the notes I'd taken of my little situations, I decided to write an e-single. No one is off limits when it comes to poking a bit of fun, and that includes me!
If you want to know what traps and pitfalls await you in the German language, or you just want to have a good laugh at my expense, this is for you!
