Tessa Buckleyabout this book: Lady in Red is the third book in the Eye Spy series about teen detectives, Alex and Donna, and their detective service, Eye Spy Investigations.
As the summer break starts, Alex and Donna have a new case: looking for Lady in Red, a lost masterpiece by the Victorian painter, Gabriel Pascoe. It's over seventy years since the painting disappeared, so clues are thin on the ground, and time is short because Acacia Villa, the house that may hold vital clues, is due to be demolished. When their search for the truth angers the most powerful man in town, the twins find themselves in a very dangerous situation…
The setting for this story – a large Victorian villa, next door to a derelict house with a huge overgrown garden – was inspired by the home I lived in as a child. Like the children in the story, I used to creep through a gap in the fence and explore the garden of the next door house, and I have never forgotten the thrill of excitement I felt as I escaped from adult eyes into my own 'secret garden'. The fact that the empty house was later revealed to hold a cache of stolen goods inspired yet another element of the story.
Lady in Red, like the other books in the series, is designed to be fast-paced and action-packed to try and help even the most reluctant of readers to discover the joy of getting immersed in a good book.
