In 1977, I was 34 years old and had reached a place of existential ennui, a bottom. I was depressed. I had a business career I hated, but which provided material support. I had experienced the counter culture, but it eventually led nowhere. Apparently this was my ripening, my readiness to receive what I sought.
It all started with finding a two-line ad in the personals of a local newspaper while using the men's room one auspicious morning, an event that turned my life upside down and eventually found me living in a Shangri-La like community 2800 miles away in the foothills of the Sierra's in Northern California.
Author/editor Tom Hyman wrote: "His account of his journey into this new world reads like a novel. He tells his story with a mixture of eloquence and insight that is both breathtaking and inspirational. The journey ends happily, but it is not without its moments of conflict, crisis, and peril."
My purpose in writing this story is to inspire others to make their own journey. The second section, Tools For The Seeker, offers practices and techniques to help them get started.
