Dick Hrebikabout this book: CORPS VET is my memoir growing up during the Great Depression in a Southern Illinois coal mining town, and a suburb of Chicago, as I begin a 75-year adventurous odyssey through 80 countries, including 23 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. I overcome adversity, take a big bite out of life, meet very famous people, and have a few thrills and secret missions along the way. Today, as a member of the Silent Generation, I remain loyal to God, country and Corps. Semper Fi
I was inspired to write this book by my students, who found my life experiences fascinating. Anyone of any age (women in particular) can identify with me or enjoy reading about my life. My publisher chose the title based on my being a Marine Corps veteran. The cover depicts my loyalties to my country and Corps. It was easy to write the book as I had been telling these stories to my children and others for years. Hopefully, readers will be inspired to reach out, take a bite of the apple, be educated by foreign travel, and find out for themselves we are all different, and should appreciate each other for our differences.
