Jillian Bullockabout this book: It took me 20 years to write HERE I STAND. I started writing years ago and often put it aside to deal with life - work, college, kids, marriages, military, etc. In 2010, I finally got serious and decided it was time to finish what I started so long ago. I was featured in a few magazines which focused on my life story - a teenager who overcame tremendous obstacles, including drug addiction, homelessness, prostitution, criminal activity, which all took place after I grew up with my mother and my Italian stepfather, who was a member of the Philadelphia Mafia.
May people contacted me about the articles in magazines and they wanted to share their stories of triumphing over horrific experiences in their own lives. Some people just wanted to share with me how my story helped changed their lives. It was then that I felt my book would definitely be a great tool for people to use to see how I transformed from a victim to a victor and how they could too.
I decided to name my memoir HERE I STAND. After all I endured in the book, I wanted a solid, bold title that stated - I've been knocked down plenty of times, but here I stand, despite everything.
My book does deal with some raw material, so it is geared toward readers over the age of 17. Since HERE I STAND has been published in 2012, I've had overwhelming feedback from people who inspired me to start a new career as an empowerment speaker and life transformation coach. People, (from corporate executives to those in correctional facilities), have written me asking for help in how they can turn their lives around. I am honored to have written my first book that resonates with so many people.
HERE I STAND is a story of survival, redemption, faith, forgiveness, empowerment, dreaming big, and ultimately success.
