Robert I. Katzabout this book: When I wrote Seizure, I had a certain Gothic tone in mind. This book delves deeply into the past. Secrets going back decades inform the action and the motivations of the characters. Like an onion; there are layers upon layers that have to be peeled back before the heart of the mystery is revealed.
In this book, the third in the Kurtz and Barent mystery series, Eleanor Herbert, an elderly, wealthy philanthropist, suffers a heart attack and seizure, during which she dreams that she sees the dead boy of Regina Cole, a young hospital administrator. Regina Cole does not show up for work the next day and a few days later, she is found in a parking lot, strangled and dead.
By now, homicide detective Lew Barent and surgeon Richard Kurtz are old friends. This is the third murder to strike Easton Medical Center in less than a year and Kurtz and Barent are determined to get to the bottom of the case. In doing so, they discover a series of conspiracies involving organized crime and the Herbert family's unsavory history that go back for many years.
