Lucy Branchabout this book: Francesca Milliardo has a lot to accomplish in one summer in Milan. She's determined to get her powerful father to help her to begin a career as a contemporary artist, but her ambitions take a back seat when she witnesses scenes that she can't account for in her Dad's home.
She enlists those around her to try and establish the truth about what she's seen, but the deeper she digs the more unlikely the answers are that she finds. There's also the inconvenience of having a crush on her father's personal assistant. Not only is he older than her, but her father wouldn't approve and she needs him on her side.
Trust in those closest to us is something we can all take for granted, but Francesca is called upon to question those around her and decide what price she's prepared to pay for her dreams.
A fast-paced mystery with a hint of supernatural and a dash of romance - a new story and main character in the Gold Gift Series
Readers who will enjoy my book are those who like conspiracy theory, art and contemporary romance. Other authors they might like include Dan Brown, Kate Mosse and Scott Mariani. This novel crosses genres and entwines magical realism with mystery.
This is my second novel and it took just a year to write and produce.
The Title is tied to another book in my series, A Rarer Gift Than Gold. Both novels are inspired by the classic myth of alchemy and they aim to challenge notions about the reality of the myth. My aim with the title, Girl In A Golden Cage, is to surprise people with an assumption they might make early on in the story.
Alongside writing fiction, I run a sculptural restoration business specialising in public sculpture. I work on War Memorials, large-scale monuments like Nelson's Column and contemporary sculpture. Occasionally, I come across a sculpture that makes my heart beat faster and in the case of this book, Girl In A Golden Cage, a book was born out of the experience.
The statue that inspired the story is by Anthony Gormley, artist of the iconic Angel of the North sculpture in the UK. His sculpture, Feeling Material XIV (https://goo.gl/images/1EihtG) is much smaller than its titanic brother, but packs no less of a punch. It features several times in the novel and represents the supernatural theme that threads its way through the story.
I know lots of readers like to follow the same main character, but my aim of this series is to bring in new key players at each novel whose stories continue within someone else's plot line. The framework, however, remains intact Italy, alchemy, secret society, intrigue.
I love hearing from people on Twitter, in particular. It's a good place to find me if you'd like to say 'Hi!'
