Ute Carboneabout this book: For me, characters are the heart and soul of good stories. Give me great characters, people I want to follow around and hang out with, and I'll be an engrossed reader. It's no surprise that I aim to write characters that come to life.
In Blueberry Truth, I began with a little girl and a teacher who finds something special in her.
There are mini saints and heroes in this world. People who, within the pages of ordinary life do small and extraordinary things. Beanie MacKenzie, the main character in Blueberry Truth, is such a hero. When a troubled little girl named Blueberry Truth comes into Beanie's life, she knows she must do everything she can to help her. Blue, though only a child is, above all, a survivor. Tough and resilient, she moves into Beanie's life and changes it forever.
I set out to write a simple story of how these two worlds, Beanie's and Blue's, come together. It's a love story in a way, a story about how families come into being.
