clownabout this book: The novel Half Wit challenges readers to question the social roles we are required to play, the traditional power structures in relationships, our notions of love and romance, and ultimately how we choose to exercise free will.
The novel follows the charmed life of a childlike, impossible man. He was an acute observer of the material world, but inverse to his knowledge of exteriors was his ignorance of interiors. He was aloof, untouchable, and understood emotions only insofar as they were reflexes, reactions, effects of sometimes discernible causes.
After countless years of being cast aside by lovers, an enigmatic woman takes possession of him and casually manipulates his destiny. She challenges him with illusions and misapprehensions, distorting the boundary between fantasy and reality. He can’t explain how he winds up being willing to do anything to keep her. Has she given him the missing pieces of his humanity or taken away something more valuable, his innocence?
"Thought-provoking . . . dishes out constant food for thought in an intriguing way. I love the descriptive way the story is told and all of the observations of people and the world . . . The book was difficult to put down."
