Michele Sfakianos, RN, BSNabout this book: This is a book about basic life skills are no longer taught in school or at home. This book is a reference to be utilized by adults of all ages for everyday living. Included skills are Cleaning; Cooking Basics; Home/Car buying; General Repairs; Health; Relationships; Finance; and much more! This book is intended for those moving out on their own for the first time (college bound or otherwise) or those that were in a relationship for a long time and are suddenly single and don't know where to start.
I was inspired to write this book when my daughter was getting ready to move to her own place. I was concerned I hadn't taught her everything she needed to know to manage her own home and take care of her child. My research revealed that home economics courses are no longer taught in school and sometimes not at home. I found some Life Skills courses, but they were all electives.
I decided upon the title of "The 4-1-1 on Life Skills" because I wanted to get information out on the things that people need to know in order to take care of their homes, themselves and others. The hardest part of writing this book was making sure that I gave enough information for everyone to understand.
The 4-1-1 on Life Skills was a winner in the 2012 National Indie Excellence Book Awards – Reference category.
As a Registered Nurse, Life Skills Expert and a mother, I want to be able to help out the young adults of today and the next generation to come.
