B.L. Wilsonabout this book: I wrote this romance novel because I wanted to examine interracial romance between lesbians. I wanted to know how a woman of color would feel being the object of a white woman's affections, especially if the woman of color restricted her dating pool to only other women of color. How and where would the two women meet? Would the woman of color say yes to the white woman's entreaties for a date? How long would it take for the woman of color to say yes if she ever did? If she said yes, would she enjoy the date? Would she be receptive to another date?
The more I thought about how to write about this connection—this first time meeting between the two women—the more I realized I'd need a common dominator. That was when I decided to have one of the women require the services that the other woman could provide. I wasn't sure what those services would be, but I knew I needed to introduce them into the story because they would play a major role. I felt the two women should reside in an urban area, where it would more likely they could meet under everyday circumstances.
New York City is the perfect setting, since I live here. I am familiar with the ebb and flow of the city. My protagonists are: a Black woman who is a NYC schoolteacher and a White woman who is a bricklayer that also teaches yoga classes when the weather turns too cold to work outside. The story line should be light, quick, and an enjoyable read. Therein lies the premise for my interracial romantic comedy Viva La Difference, love knows no boundaries. Pre-order now. Release date 7/25/16.
