Book: Defending Turquoise - A Legal Thriller (Thaddeus Murfee Legal Thriller Series Book 5) by John Ellsworthcategories: Book, Crime Fiction, Financial Thriller, Native Fiction, Suspense, Legal Thriller
John Ellsworthabout this book: Defending Turquoise is perhaps my most "important" book to date. It deals with the abuse of Native Americans on reservations and how these offenses are so often under-investigated or ignored by the authorities, resulting in sex crimes that far exceed U.S. national rates. It is a crime and pity that this stuff is going on, and the more of us that write about it and call it out, the better.
Turquoise is a Native American girl (Navajo) in her mid-teens who is the victim of sexual abuse at the hands of a family member. That family member is murdered and Turquoise is put on trial for the murder. She is defended by Thaddeus Murfee, who is himself in trouble with the court and fighting for his own professional survival.
A parallel story begins, involving wife of the District Attorney. She has been charged with murdering him, and Thaddeus defends her, too.
The two cases are related and begin to merge into one from the reader's standpoint.
The trials are fascinating and very lifelike. Readers are raving about the book, including its surprise ending.
