Lisa Riebeabout this book: Pond Punkies is about eight clans from the eight moons that orbit Neptune. Each clan is born with a special power. All clans send their young Punkies to Neptune Training Academy on Neptune. There they work on controlling their powers until a geyser erupts and some Pond Punkies are blasted to Earth.
Who are the primary readers of your book?
This science fiction/fantasy series is for seven to ten year olds who aren't afraid to think outside of the box.
What inspired you to write this book?
An action figure inspired me to write this series. I wanted to invent a toy for kids to play with and decided no one would want to play with my action figure if they didn't know anything about him...hence the Pond Punkies series was born.
Pond Punkies was also written with the struggling reader in mind. The font is larger, extra spacing between the lines, and full page illustrations in all the chapters. I really wanted to get boys in second grade interested in reading.
How did you come up with the title?
The Pond Punkies name came from creating a toy that related to ponds and I just plain old liked the word Punkies!
What do you want to say to your readers?
Sometimes life throws us a curve ball and we need to get away. This doesn't only happen to adults. Kids also need a place to escape to. Pond Punkies provides the young reader of early chapter books a way to go on an adventure and leave their troubles behind.
