Author C.T. Walshabout this book: Down with the Dance is a book about a middle schooler, Austin Davenport, who sometimes struggles to fit in, one because of his intelligence, and two because of his lack of coordination. He often finds himself in unenviable positions. However, the main story line of Down with the Dance finds Austin in a very enviable position. A new girl, way out of his league, wants to go the sixth-grade Halloween dance with him. The only problem? Austin's enemies want to take down the dance. Austin has to use all of his brain power and the help of a few trusted allies to keep the dance afloat and his dream date alive.

I was inspired to write this series when I looked around at kids everywhere who would rather play video games than read a book. I wanted to create something that was exciting and funny to encourage reluctant readers to put down the game controllers.

It took about three months to write. I write every day for 1-3 hours. It flowed pretty easily.

Down with the Dance came to me as I was falling asleep. I was looking for something short and catchy that could sum up the book without giving anything away.

I hired a cover artist to design something that would fit within the genre. I'm very happy with it.

The hardest part about writing the book was writing middle school characters until I realized I'm really immature and not that much more advanced than they are.

I didn't do much research for the book. I really just observed my daughter and her middle school friends to make sure my characterizations were on point.

I hope my readers enjoy the book and getting to know the characters. They really are a good bunch, if I do say so myself. Well, except for Austin's nemesises...
