Diane Craverabout this book: A GIFT FOREVER was first published under the title The CHRISTMAS OF 1957. I wanted it published before my mother passed on. I'm glad she knew about my story because I based it on a true childhood incident, and included several other family events that occurred. Then in 2010, I submitted the story to Whimsical Publications and changed the title to A CHRISTMAS GIFT. I added eight thousand words so then the length became 25K plus words.
After enjoying self-publishing my Amish series, I asked for my rights back for this Christmas novella. I'm pleased with the lovely cover Erin Dameron-Hill created for this special heartwarming story that can be enjoyed year round. Because it isn't just for Christmas reading, I have changed the title to A GIFT FOREVER.
I researched many things because it was essential to me to have accuracy. For example, I made sure I had my facts correct about polio vaccines in 1957, and when I included other various details, I researched to make sure the item would have been available. I also checked on names of real places located in the setting because sometimes businesses change. When I realized the present company used another name in 1957, I made the correction.
