Book: Redefining Normal - How Two Foster Kids Beat The Odds and Discovered Healing, Happiness and Love by Alexis Black and Justin Blackcategories: Book, Foster Care, Healing, Happiness, Relationship Goals, Adoption, Inspirational Life Stories
Alexis Blackabout this book: My husband and I wrote the book because we wanted to save our marriage before it even began - we both grew up in the foster care system with extremely unhealthy and traumatic backgrounds and wanted to do everything we could to help it be successful.
We write the book in alternating accounts to show people that we had to go through individual journeys of healing and self-discovery in order to come together and have a healthy relationship. We are using our story as motivation for others to heal, break generational patterns, and to challenge people to redefine the normal in their lives.
We use statistics throughout the book to show that we've had to consistently beat the odds in order to be who we are today as well as rely on the community that we've built.
• "An inspiring and authentic autobiography. Written with raw emotion and brutal honesty, the message is further backed up with hard data and stunning statistics, presented with analytical authority that understands how to present a strong argument. Both touching and tragic, the authors are fearless in their storytelling, shining a powerful light on widespread, critical, and often undiscussed crises." — Self-Publishing Review
• "Redefining Normal is stitched with biblical truths and clear statistics. Whether you are scrolling or page-turning, this memoir is hard to set down." — Lisa Hoeve
