D. Duquetteabout this book: When I wrote Letting Go of Holding On, I didn't write it with my readers in mind. That's why this book is far different from any book you will ever read. I didn't tiptoe around the reader's feelings. In fact, I stepped right on them. I wrote this book about trauma after going through a traumatic experience of my own. For those on the outside, we ask "why can't you just get over it?", but for those who inhaled a breath of tragedy, it's a completely different world. Trauma means different things to different people. It's not about strength and weakness. It's not something you just "get over." It's learning how to cope because most of us carry the trauma within our heart every day.
There is trauma everywhere. We hear about it. We see it on the news. Nobody ever tells us what happens to those people after they've hit rock bottom. Do they get back up? I had certain people in mind when I told April's story. How did that wife pick up the pieces and carry on for the sake of their family after she lost her husband? The parents who buried their own child. Those who have had to bury more. What about the husband who was the lone survivor of his family's house fire? These people fascinate me. When they had every reason to climb into bed and never climb back out, they chose to wake up every morning and place one foot in front of the other. These people are my MVP's. The most powerful thing in this world is our emotions. Letting go of holding on is okay. Sometimes that's how people find themselves again.
People ask me all the time, what genre is your book? It doesn't fit into a certain category. There's drama, romance, humor and suspense. You'll feel happy and you'll feel heartache. You will laugh and you will cry. It is incredibly raw. Anybody can relate because as humans, our feelings are very versatile, like my book.
Can you forgive the unforgivable? They say love can move mountains and Letting Go of Holding On proves just that. If there's one thing I wish for my readers to take out of my story, it's to be nice to all those you meet because you just never know the pain one hides underneath their hat. My deepest compassion for first responders, doctors, nurses and those who serve our country, because you chose to live your life alongside trauma's dotted line.
