From Home to Homeless to Success is a guide to identifying the obstacles and the enemies that block the achievements of your success.
Amidst the worst housing crises in U.S. history, a former homeless man says the most effective bailout is an investment in the minds of those facing the loss of their homes. "Even though you may lose everything materially, you can make it if you reinforce your mind and spirit," said Carlton Young.
After losing his job, Young found himself homeless with his young son. That was almost a decade ago, but he can still remember how financial upheaval can change a person's life almost overnight. Young, a 22-year retired decorated Marine, was working for the Federal Aviation Administration when he suddenly went from actively thriving to barely surviving while living out of his car in metro Atlanta, GA. "I learned a lot about those people," said Young, "while living on the streets." He has chronicled his life on the streets in a new book titled "From Home to Homeless to Success." He says "those people" are not all bad. "They need hope," says Young, who has included empowerment exercises in his book.
Historically, homelessness has affected those who had already lived at or near the poverty line or those who struggled with substance abuse or mental illness. Today, as home foreclosures loom, some everyday working Americans may find themselves among the expanding homeless population. Young says he can both empathize with and equip those who face loss.
