about this book: This book brings a return to the town of Sanctuary, and the homeless people from the previous story on their journeys. There are challenges. Darren faces life indoors as a family man and jobseeker. Daddy and companions battle floods and storms and a long journey to safety with one of their group battling illness. Anna comes back to Sanctuary in time to meet the last person on earth that she expected to meet, and she realises that Steve, the musician, is missing. Her close friend, Vic, follows her to Sanctuary and livens things up with his mischief, but he becomes part of a small group of younger people in town, will Vic settle in Sanctuary?

Steve returns safely from a trip to face his demons, but he brings two people with him who get an uncertain reception from the other homeless.

There are new faces in Sanctuary as Pete becomes unexpected and unlikely guardian to two vulnerable young women, one who is too afraid to go to her flat because of antisocial behaviour, and the other who is at a loss when her boyfriend goes into prison, leaving her destitute and alone after a lifetime of abuse. Pete is a reformed man since his final drunken row with his girlfriend led to her walking out, but can he stay clean and sober to look after his two new unexpected charges? Is this redemption?

Sanctuary has changed since Mikey passed away, the council have closed the soup kitchen which was such a source of comfort and company for the homeless, they have opened an ineffectual part time day centre which only admits rough sleepers who want to be housed, leaving most of the homeless and vulnerable in the town isolated. But the council's efforts to minimise homelessness are failing and causing increased problems for others. Evangelical minister, Nick, meets with the newcomer in town, whose mission is to help the homeless and vulnerable, but will the council engage with them?

Darren and Colleen prepare to celebrate the baby's baptism, and Daddy and friends arrive back in town, but the joy is tinged with sadness as bad news overshadows the joys of reunion and christening. The homeless have an uncertain future as they prepare for an inevitable loss. And now, as the gang face their future, Anna is challenged about hers, what will she decide?

The story continues to tell of homeless and Traveller culture from the author's experience, and the underpinning characters of the church, council and others who relate to the homeless continue to grow and develop.
