Book Review: The Gift - a novella by Lolli Powellcategories: Book, Inspirational, Clean, Holiday, Spiritual, Miracles, Love, Holiday Fiction
Lolli Powellabout this book: I wanted to write a book set around the holidays, and I wanted it to be a hopeful book. The main character, Elizabeth, a recent widow, is visiting with her adult children and grandchildren for the holidays. Her son-in-law is missing in Afghanistan, and her daughter is close to giving up hope. I have Elizabeth tell her family the story of what happened to her when she was a young bride with a husband missing in Vietnam.
The story moves between the present and the sixties, as she recounts the miracle that happened to her on a snowy day when she wanted to die. I was a young adult myself in the sixties, but it's surprising how much a person can forget about how things were then. I really enjoyed taking a little walk down memory lane by researching that time period.
I've been pleased with readers' reactions to the book. It seems to hit the emotional bar I was striving for. Some readers say they were brought to tears, but they all seem to find the story satisfying and hopeful.
'A superbly written, emotionally rewarding novella. A FINALIST
and highly recommended,' The Wishing Shelf Book Awards

TeardropI loved this book and cannot say enough about the emotion and true portrayal of an era the author was able to emulate. Thank you for taking the time, your talent and above all sharing your gift of the written word. If you want to read something refreshing, candid and remarkably on-point you should consider reading this book. [by Max]
