Judy Ann Davisabout this book: In 1856, the lumbering industry surged in Central Pennsylvania because of the rich forests of tall white pine. Used as ship masts, the logs were floated down the Susquehanna River to the Chesapeake bay and sold along the coast and as far away as Europe.
"Willie, My Love." is a historical romantic mystery about a young female tomboy, named Wilhelmina Wydcliffe, who ran the logging operations of three saw mills with her father in Clearfield, Pennsylvania. Her dream was to be the biggest operator east of the Mississippi River.
Their shipping partner, Wain and Sons, sends Jonathan Wain, the oldest son, to Pennsylvania when Willie's ailing father is plagued by unknown enemies who try to ruin his business. Together, they must find who is threatening their lives and trying to destroy the logging business.
Author Judy Ann Davis researched data and information from the logging industry in Pennsylvania to use in her novel. Her manuscript was written many years ago, but she always like the story, so she was dusted it off, rewrote it, and scaled it down from 114,000 to 94,000 words.
