Karen Coganabout this book: Fragile Dreams is set in the deep south during the Civil War. Caroline, the heroine is torn between her loyalty to the south and her concern for a Yankee soldier she finds wounded on her lawn. He is young and handsome and deeply committed to God. The longer she nurses him, the more romantic she finds him. When it comes to a choice she must decide between him or the south.
This novel took nine months to write. The primary readers of this book are women who enjoy inspirational romance. I was inspired to write it to show that a deep faith can transform loved ones. Readers can expect mystery, murder and romance.
The title was inspired by the idea that circumstances may change our dreams and often improve them. In this story, Caroline wanted to cling to the pampered life of a southern belle. She resented the intrusion of war and how it robbed her of the comfort and beauty she treasured. In the long run, what she gained was worth more than everything she lost.
