Shirley G. Martinabout this book: "Destined to Love" is the story of Rebecca, a white woman, captured by the Indians in colonial Pennsylvania. When the fur trader, Daniel Chamberlain, rides into her village, he turns her life upside down. She has learned to accept her life among the Indians and loves her adoptive mother. Yet she is attracted to the fur trader and wonders what life would be like, living in the white man's world again. A love develops between Rebecca and Daniel but conflict, too, for Rebecca resents the way white men are taking so much of Indian land. "Destined to Love" is the story of Rebecca and Daniel and how they work to resolve their differences.
In reading the history of Pennsylvania, I came across many instances of white people captured by the Indians and how these people were torn between two worlds. I did much research for this romance. Since it covers the French and Indian War, I read everything I could find on that war as it related to western Pennsylvania. I also read several books on colonial life in western Pennsylvania, the people's houses, how they dressed, what they ate. Since Lenape (Delaware) Indians are involved, I studied their language.
Even with all the research, this book was fun to write and should appeal to all who love historical romances.
• Review: "Very good...This is a tale reminiscent of "The Last of the Mohicans." — Romantic Times
