Gini Rifkin about this book: I’m so fortunate to live in Colorado, and I love doing research for my stories. After visiting Leadville I was inspired to write "A Cowboy's Fate", winner of the Maple Leaf Award for best short story. At over 10,000 feet, the town is breathtaking in more ways than one, and seems on top of the world. Settled in 1859 during the Pikes Peak or Bust gold rush, it later became known for its wealth of silver. Leadville was one of the most lawless towns in the West, and remained so for many years, the perfect backdrop for my story. What types of folks were courageous enough and tough enough to make it there in 1880? Even though danger awaited their arrival, I believe my characters, Britania and Cody, would have survived to live a long and loving life together. Britania believed so as well--at least that’s what her Tarot cards predicted. I hope you will follow their road trip adventure from Denver to Leadville, one filled with mishaps, laughter, and love.
