Lauren Linwoodabout this book: For my first published book, I knew I had to write a medieval historical romance. I've always loved reading the romance genre and despite all the conflicts along the way, getting that Happily Ever After ending. A period that's always fascinated me was the Middle Ages.
But what could I hook readers with that would be different? I landed upon a traveling troupe of mummers, playing faires across southern England. The big difference? Their troubadour was . . . a woman! That was unheard of in these times. Men served as troubadours, weaving their tales through song. Women didn't perform as troubadours--ever!
My heroine Madeleine is fleeing from a husband that she suspects is planning to murder her for not providing the required heir. Ironically, she becomes friends--and falls in love with--an English lord whose own wife fled. Did she leave her husband Garrett for her lover, as was rumored? Or did Garrett do away with her?
As Madeleine loses her heart to Garrett, she also forms close friendships with members of the troupe that become family to her. And as she tries to heal Garrett's misery with her music, he finds that her music saves his soul--thus my title MUSIC FOR MY SOUL.
