Sharon Ihleabout this anthology: This book is a collection of three short stories that are either prequels or sequels. My story, The Bareback Bride, is a sequel to my full novel, The Bride Wore Spurs. When I was asked to take part in this project, I didn't have to spend much time deciding which of my novels would be worthy of a sequel. I have had many more requests from readers to do a sequel to The Bride Wore Spurs than any book I've ever written.
These readers have shown a preference for learning about the twins Hawke and Lacey produce at the end of the novel. What are their names? they wonder. Will they stay on the ranch as adults and raise horses like their father? How are Hawke and Lacey doing? Things like that, things I've wondered about myself. So that's what I did.
The story starts out with daughter Shannon running off to join the Buffalo Bill Wild West. She has her mother's blessing, but when Hawke finds out, he is enraged and worried enough to send Shannon's twin brother, Caleb after her. This arrangement will not be to Shannon's liking, but the twins have been outsmarting each other almost from the day they were born. Everyone but Shannon figures the plan will work out fine.
Of course it doesn't, but what does work out to Shannon's joy, is the job she is offered in Buffalo Bill's show. She is an expert rider, has her own well-trained horse, and will be working with dark-haired, quick-witted cowboy, Seth Edwards. I won't go into any more details here and spoil the story, but it should be noted that as the daughter of a red-haired, independent Irish woman and a half-Arapaho Indian who is just as bull-headed as his wife, Shannon will be giving Seth a run for his money...and his heart.
• "What fun to have three great stories to enjoy! "
• "Loved all three. Like the idea of the shorter novella for busy people like me. Excellent plots - really enjoy the old west theme. Keep 'em coming!"
