Book Review: Shadows of the Mind (Whispers of the Past Book 2) by Owen Cloughcategories: Book, Sailing Ships, Memory Loss, Time Warp, Romance, New Zealand, South Africa, UK, Time Travel, Historical Fiction
Owen Cloughabout this book: My book is New Zealand historical fiction. It came about from my love of genealogy and history and so my trilogy was born. Whispers of the Past was the first book with Shadows of the Mind number two and this year completing the trilogy is Clearing of the Mist. I was asked to write about the family, but you have to be exact with your facts. Writing historical fiction you can change things place as much as you like and also use historical people of the time to bring the books alive.
Teenagers to the elderly are reading, and I must say they have enjoyed my stories and what better way does this make it all worthwhile.
The first book was started in 2014 the last book was finished this year 2020 so six years in the writing. As my books are historical fiction, I took modern young men and slipped them back in time to the start of the New Zealand wars of 1863. You can have a lot of fun with the characters in this scenario. The title then came into their own as each book is a major point to what the books are about. The covers of the book are all freehand by Tania Hassounia @ www.drawerfullofgiants.com she did a wonderful job bringing characters to life on the covers.
The hardest part writing the trilogy was the second book it was quite a slog but eventuality, I managed to cross the T's and dot the I's The third book then seemed to flow effortlessly.
The research was time-consuming, even though the trilogy is fiction, I wanted to make sure that the timelines were correct and the people mention where in their right timeline. I learned to take big breaths and be patient, so that is a plus as I usually go bull at a gate.
To the readers enjoy the books for what they are, historical fiction soak in the Kiwi way of speech, feel the rain on your face, the wind in the trees with the sounds of long ago extinct birds of yesteryear.

A well written and very different time travel story.Lost in time, transported to 1863, then injured with a head wound. Separated from his mates and not remembering his name or his true past, this is the story of Sam and his friend's search to bring him back to the present. A truly engrossing novel, with great detail and narrative. While I have never traveled to these locations, they certainly are now at the top of my wish list due to the author's marvelous descriptions. [by B. Allen Thobois]
