Adrienne Morrisabout this book: Buck Crenshaw has spent his life in the shadow of his more aggressive and less scrupulous twin brother Fred as a means of survival in a dysfunctional family. Every step in the direction of independence is fraught with danger from either his family all too happy to see him fail or the other cadets who watch on with growing concern as Buck seems to befriend a colored cadet.
I loved the idea of playing with an evil twin scenario, but knew as I wrote this book that we are all capable of evil deeds and are only a few steps away from making regrettable decisions. Buck is my favorite flawed yet lovable character who tries very hard to get things right but so often goes terribly wrong.
When Buck finally goes west to seek help from his sister, he finds she's as lost as he is and running is no longer an option.
Amazon Review / 5 stars:
• "The story ranges from love and romance to questions of faith and morality. It does all this without being preachy and explores many angles of different aspects of life."
