Marie Silkabout this book: Davenport House is an exquisite mansion where a family secret takes a dark turn. 22-year-old Mary Davenport must rely on the servants to help her find answers and comfort in a time of grief. The lives of the wealthy family are compared and contrasted with the hardworking servants who live below.
I enjoyed the research that went into this book. The characters are fictional, but the locations and social politics are true to the time. I was inspired to write this series by the works of Jane Austen, and by the timeless Cinderella story. I believe that whether rich or poor, we all face the tests of loyalty, honor, and love. I chose the year 1915 for this book because of the exciting times that America was experiencing in the Progressive Era. The advancements in technology, tensions leading up to The Great War, and prejudices in social status create a thrilling backdrop for the Davenport House series.
