Marilyn Meredithabout this book: This was my second venture of writing an historical family saga based on genealogy. This time is about my father's side of the family. When reading the genealogy researched by my sister, I couldn't help but wonder why this family moved so often and to so many different places. Of course this gave me many places and time periods to research and try to piece together what was going on while my family resided in each area.
It is the story of two families--the Osborns who came west following the Mormon trail and becoming one of the first families to settle in Grass Valley, California; and the Crabtrees who made their way through Mexico, catching a paddle steamer in Mazatlan and jumping ship in Monterey, finally making their way to Springville CA.
Both families overcame many dangers, faced great tragedies, and lived adventurous lives.
I learned that my great-grandfather, William Newton Crabtree, led the first survey party to find Mount Whitney.
This is the third edition of this book.
