Catherine Brakefield

Author Catherine Brakefieldabout this book: Destiny's Whirlwind is the second book of the four-book faith-based Destiny series. In the first book of the series, Swept into Destiny, Ben McConnell, a handsome Irish immigrant, meets Maggie Gatlan, a southern belle. They unite in a common cause during the Civil War.

As one Amazon reader wrote, "...This isn't just a world of beaus, belles, and balls, but of moral ambiguity and searches for the truth..."

Where Swept into Destiny ends, Destiny's Whirlwind begins: A death-bed promise, a dashing Rough Rider, the parable of the sower take on unimaginable consequences as Ben's daughter, Collina, fights to keep her father's legacy of Shushan alive.

One reviewer wrote: "Destiny's Whirlwind by Catherine Brakefield is a beautiful inspirational love story that will reel you in and win your heart...The story is beautifully written and filled with triumph and heartbreak. I couldn't put it down..."

Looking back, I can see the hand of God orchestrating the events leading up to writing Destiny's Whirlwind. My grandmother came to visit us often and eventually moved in with my husband, children, and me. She lived with us for twelve years, until Gran left our home to live with Jesus.

Many of the events in Destiny's Whirlwind are true. Smallpox, the dashing Rough Rider, the team of six white horses my great aunt drove, even the taffeta gowns rustling in the night breezes, the gigot sleeves adorning the slender shoulders of the ladies that depicted the Gibson Era, all became very real to me listening to Gran's southern down-home dialect relate the events leading up to the Spanish-American War.

My grandmother and mother inspired this Destiny Series and encouraged my dreams. My purpose in writing Destiny's Whirlwind and the Destiny Series is to spread the truth about our Christian-American heritage.

One reader writes: "...her eloquent style and beautifully, descriptive and creative writing, takes the reader to the edge of your seat with bated breath as each page draws you deeper into the incredible journey of the McConnell family..."
