Matthew Alfsabout this book: This is a book about the joys of country living—including wildlife interaction and wild- foods foraging—that is related in the form of a novel. The story centers upon a newly married couple who, in the mid-1980s, move to the country on the edge of a large wilderness area, where they share many experiences with the plants and animals in that region, as well as with country neighbors. The many nutritional and healing benefits that can be derived from over 75 different wild plants are outlined in detail for the reader. Beyond that, the book helps one to appreciate the preciousness of our few remaining wild regions and why we must cherish them and the animals and plants who dwell upon them. My own 40-plus years of experience in these areas was the impetus for this novel, which took five years to write. The book is softcover, 151 pages in length, and includes an index to both the plants and the health conditions discussed in the text, as well as bibliographic references.
