Mary Maxieabout this book: This is the second book in the Teacher of Time series. The first book, Teacher of Time-- Theriesenstadt Concentration Camp, saw two Phoenix Arizona teachers travel back in time to 1943 Nazi Germany. Here, their son time travels back to Germany in 1973, at the height of the economic and social problems in East Berlin, associated with the Berlin Wall.
The idea for this story came from a friend, whose brother and his family were caught behind the Wall when it closed in 1969. My friend related many stories about her family's travails which are chronicled here.
The cover carries on the barbed wire theme, showing a violin surrounded by barbed wire, signifying that music will live even when the people who love it are repressed.
The author's granddaughter acts as the author's computer guru, book trailer producer, occasional cover artist, as well as current fashionista. While the book was orignally concieved as an young adult story, I have found that just as many adults as teens enjoy it. The sequel to this book is called Teacher of Time-- Cambodia.
