Andrew Knightonabout this book: From the pits of hell to the far side of the galaxy. From the ancient Middle East to the distant future. From the hearts of human beings to the grinding gears of conscious machines.
This collection of 59 flash stories will take you to other times and places - some real, and many more imaginary. Experience life in ancient Rome or medieval France, a steampunk city or an empty planet. There's action and adventure, love and loss, all in the space of a few heartbeats.
Where this book came from:
In the autumn of 2014, a fellow writer pointed out to me that most fiction writers don't put fiction on their blogs. This seemed a little odd, given that stories are what readers want from fiction writers. So she offered up a challenge - to post a new short piece of fiction on a blog every Friday.
I took up the challenge, and over a year later I'm still going strong. It has been a real workout for my imagination, coming up with new worlds and characters every week. It has also been invigorating, preventing my creative muscles from cramping up. The stories are still out there to read for free, but this book brings them together for the first time in a single, easy to read volume.
These are the shortest of short stories, each less than a thousand words long. Perfect for when you only have ten minutes to spare, or want to fit in a couple of stories on your commute. Each is small but self-contained - a mosaic of different worlds and characters, brought together in a single volume.
