Book: A Handful of Courage by Tony Nashcategories: Book, World War I, Espionage, Warfare, Romance, Friendship, Infighting, First World War
Tony Nashabout this book: A true-to-life account of the terrors of the First World War, and my father's part in it, only fictionalised by the other characters in the novel. The book took six months to write and was inspired by his service in the Army. The title follows the previous two, 'A Handful of Destiny' and 'A Handful of Salt' bringing the family up to the First World War. My new novel, 'No Tears Tomorrow' takes the family into the Second World War. The book required a massive amount of research, and that research, from which I learnt a great deal, took longer than the actual writing. My father was wounded at Gallipoli, and witnessed the sudden, inexplicable disappearance of the 2nd Norfolks, which later became the subject of a major film. He fought through France and Belgium, in most of the major battles, and some of his stories are incorporated in this work, though, like most soldiers, he was reluctant to give details.
