Paul Jamesabout this book: Diary of a Canadian Nobody is about family life in the West at a time of unsettling change. In this case, the start of the new Millennium when companies were downsizing rapidly and the War on Terror had just begun with the attack on the World Trade Center (9/11). When 9/11 happened I began keeping a diary, something I'd meant to do for some time. The book captures most of the events of our family life along with the events of the day but presents it in a fictional setting. The book didn't get finished until after I retired, over a decade later and its title is borrowed from one of my own favorite books, The Diary of a Nobody. What I'd like readers to take from my book is how urgent and important everything seems at the time, even horrific events, but how quickly they are forgotten in real life.
Reviewers have enjoyed the book too:
1. I really enjoyed the wry (but gentle) and very witty humour of this book. There were lots of 'laugh out loud' moments, especially over the workings of the organisation Arthur works for (which does things that are so stupid they would have to be based in reality!)
2. Laughed my way through it. As a Canadian expat, I forget the unique humor and thinking of my fellow Canadians - and this made me homesick for Canadian neighbors.
