Kacie Taylorabout this book: A twist on the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast. I have always enjoyed Beauty and the Beast, but have often disliked the portrayal of the Beast as an animal-like creature. It's hard for me to accept that a human girl could fall in love with him, even if it is fairy tale. Bestial qualities don't necessarily mean fur and fangs. I started wondering how I would portray him. He would be frightening to look at, of course, but also have more human features to make the impossible love story more believable. That's how my own story grew. There are similarities to the classic story, but it definitely has a voice of its own. The twists make it unique and fresh.
Told from the point of view of Callia, who is chosen to be the next potential Bride of the king, she arrives at his castle fearing the worst. Some of the terrible rumors about the king have some truth to them, yet her fierce determination to survive where all other Brides have not might be the key to unlocking something more than just a king seeking a queen.
