E. Edgar Priceabout this book: After years of being a passive reader, I finally realized there were books I wanted to read that nobody else was writing. Sanctuary was born out of my desire to read one of those unwritten books.
It is a story about family first and the trials we go through as a family when the ones we love are lost to us. Though Sanctuary is primarily a young adult novel, it's themes reach far into maturity. Secondly, there is an element of magic and mystery. As someone who grew up on the allegorical premise of shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, this was a natural progression for me.
There is also an ambiguousness hidden in the undergrowth of this narrative. There is something sinister lurking behind the words on each page. Good and evil are less defined, characters do not readily present themselves as one or the other, and choices aren't so straightforward. In this way Sanctuary is less a book about magic and more a story about human beings, albeit humans who encounter some exceptionally strange things.
If you're anything like me, then you'll like a good story. And Sanctuary is a good story.
