Brad Shrefflerabout this book: My book is about a 15 year old boy, Jack, who accidentally releases two powerful beings from an artifact. When he does, he gains complete control over fire, but he also starts a chain of events that go from bad to worse. His best friend is taken by one of the beings. In order to beat this being, Jack has to go out and gain new powers from a race of ancient beings, Ori, that are each bound to a force of nature.
I am a 7th Grade Language Arts teacher from Orlando, FL. In November of 2011, I challenged my students to do NaNoWriMo, an online challenge to write a 50,000 word or greater novel in one month, for extra credit. In order to encourage them to complete the project, he took the challenge himself, and this is the work that was the result. While none of his students completed the challenge, he still looks forward to completing the sequel to this novel in November of this year.
I wrote this book with my students in mind as the audience, but I realized as I wrote it that it has a wider appeal than that. I have had it read by a number of my friends and family, and they all really enjoyed it and are eagerly awaiting the sequel (which I plan on writing for NaNoWriMo this year).
This is my first published work and I have REALLY enjoyed the publishing process. Watching my brain-child go from the simple idea to being read by people all over the country has been awe inspiring and humbling. It really has been one of the coolest things I have ever done.
