Nancy Jeanabout this book: Behind the Forest Secrets is the third book in a series of the Tulip Sisters; four faery sisters who were born from tulips at the exact same moment. The main characters: Etaura, the earth faery, Aiara the air faery, Fierre the fire faery and Wyshari, the water faery each reflect the appearance and magical powers of their element. Anyone who has a reverence for nature, the symbolism of the elements, and an interest in magical ideas will appreciate the themes woven throughout the book.
Book three takes the Tulip Sisters down to Reunion Arboleda, a faery gathering spot located in the Amazon rainforest. The Faery Leader has requested help regarding a strange and concerning phenomenon among the trees. Once again, human actions have resulted in consequences beyond the physical realm. The faeries don't have much time to resolve the situation, while trying not to aggravate the already tense relations between various faery folk tribes. The sisters learn of new astral creatures, how to deal with an unfamiliar environment, and of a devastating secret that will change one sister forever. The story is rich in detail and has enough suspense to keep the reader engaged from the first chapter to the last.
The cover of the book follows the format for the series. Foremost is a faery wing, showing the sparkling tribal design that is unique to the four Tulip Sisters. The background gives a hint to the location of the gathering spot to which they travel, in this case a massive kapok tree.
Although much of the story's astral realm comes from creativity, thorough research was conducted to ensure accurate physical information about the Amazon rainforest; including everything from temperature to plants, fruits and animals (big thanks to Google, and the Discovery Channel in particular). It only made sense that the rainforest weather plays a more important role than just a background. Also, a trip to the Edison and Ford Winter Estates allowed me to visit the only kapok tree in Florida. I took no less than 50 pictures from every angle which were constantly used as reference.
I am sure I am in good company when I say I was inspired by, and learned so much from, J.K. Rowling. Planning each book with the overall series in mind helps keep the reader engaged as the Tulip Sisters' adventures continue. Behind the Forest Secrets gives me the chance to once again share my love of faeries, elemental magic and storytelling with my readers.
