Jacqueline Sapphire

about this book: Lovely Desireé is a Novice at St.Cyr.

All she wants is to become a Nun and serve God, but Fate will have it otherwise.

She's about to take the veil when she is summoned to Versailles, and Louis XV's sinful Court.

Her cousin Noelle is the Court Investigator, assiduously delving into the mystery surrounding the murder of the Court Jesters, the Royal Family's erotic carryings-on and looking for a man with a Fleur de Lys tattoo on know.

Oh, and finding a husband, any husband.

In the midst of all this, the King's debauched younger brother is determined to have Desireé save his soul; the killer has targeted her, and all clues point right back to her alma mater: St. Cyr.

Who is killing the Jesters?

Hidden secrets unfold, unquiet ghosts rise to shake the glittering chandeliers at Versailles, and an old sin leads to fresh kills...

"Desire's Detective" is an attempt at a melding of genres: humour, historical, mystery and erotic.

It was written for fun, and I had a great time coming up with all the little tongue-in-cheek jabs at history!

The seed of the idea sprung full-blown: two protagonists - Desireé and Noelle - one a selfless virginal mystic, the other a hardened woman accustomed to using her body to make her way in the world. The society they live in is sophisticated, sensuous and treacherous.

Layers of secrets and pain are hidden by diamonds and damask; inconvenient sins are buried in convents, and love is a word scarcely understood.

The Reader I have imagined is someone rather like myself, who wants to read something funny and interesting; erotic without being smutty or coarse.

I hope I have accomplished at least some of that.

I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it!
