Patricia Greenabout this book: This book is the second of the Romantek books, but it is a stand-alone novella. It's a M/F, erotic science fiction romance, set both in the future and on the high seas in the eighteenth century.
Charlotte has a nasty facial scar from a childhood accident. Nothing in her current era (in the future) can get rid of the thing, and she considers herself quite ugly. Her behavior comports with that feeling. The fabulous Romantek process, however, includes some rejuvenation and there is a chance she'll lose her scar as part of the experience. To that end, she scrapes up the money and signs on for a Romantek dreaming vacation, hoping that it will lead to rejuvenation as a side effect. She doesn't care about the content of the dream vacation, so she picks at random.
And ends up in an eighteenth century pirate adventure.
The Romantek business, however, is having some problems with hackers. Their cyber-security chief, Rex Masters, is incorporated in a dream vacation, ostensibly to protect a VIP dreamer from any possible hacker activity. In the dream, he meets Charlotte. Sparks fly and, even while the hacker creates mayhem, both Charlotte and Rex find themselves drawn to each other.
