Reza Mashayekhiabout this book: This is a collection of more than 2000 English idioms and expressions, their meanings, and some of the origins. I felt the need for such a resource both when I was learning and, later, when I was teaching English. Especially considering the fact that there are so many idioms in the English language.
The book also includes interesting expressions and proverbs from other languages and cultures that show how we have more things in common than we realize.
To break the monotony, a number of humorous illustrations are also included that show potential misinterpretations of various idioms. And the clever cover points to the uncovering of what's hidden underneath: The hidden meaning!
In the process of writing this book, I learned even more expressions, and I'm sure I'll have compiled much more by the time I do the second edition.
This is a fun AND useful book for anyone who speaks English, especially if they are interested to also learn more about the language. It can be a great gift for a friend that will be referred to for many years to come.
