Victoria Randallabout this book: This book is a response to a statement I often see on comments on news sites, whenever a child is injured or neglected by a parent. People write, "there should be a law, or you should have to pass a test to have a baby." While I whole heartedly understand this sentiment, I wondered what it would be like if government actually passed a law like this and enforced it.
I came up with a similar scenario to what they have in China, which is an atrocious infringement of human rights. The tragic tales that have come out of that country are heart wrenching. I explored the concept through my heroine, who finds herself pregnant and faces the stringent laws requiring her to purchase a baby license or face the consequences. I envisioned a revival of the Underground Railway, which helped slaves escape their masters before the Civil War.
The second book in the series deals with a toddler captured by the Population Control Police, and the third with a teenager facing the same system.
I hope that my book, while providing excitement and suspense, might inspire readers to think about what goes on in our society, and what the future might bring.
