James Weatherfordabout this book: Most of the, end of life as we know it, scenarios have been explored. Nuclear war, worldwide pandemic, economic collapse, even solar flares and comet strikes, have all been the basis for many great works of fiction. Some of these potential threats loom large in our minds, given the conditions in the world today. As we all pray that none of these catastrophic events occur, have we considered a future where the earth can no longer support our numbers? Are we above the laws of nature? We are at the top of the food chain, but when a species outgrows its environment, survival of the fittest is nature's way of assuring the continuation of that species. It is in the nature of the beast to survive at all cost.
In writing this book, I've come to realize that we take way too much for granted, our planet for example. In a modern world we expect that all our needs will be met. Next time you see a homeless person, ask them if their needs are being met. It's a rare individual who chooses a self-reliant lifestyle, but self-reliance is what made this country strong.
