Marianne Stephensabout this book: Luke's story is true...it's about a dog's struggle to survive after being hit by a car. Luke belongs to my brother and sister-in-law, and I experienced their anguish of first realizing Luke was lost and trying to find him, and then the daily pain of encouraging him to overcome his injuries. The photos in the book show Luke's progress in healing; his "new life" is of a different quality, but he's shown everyone he possesses a strong will to live with his handicaps.
Luke encourages all who meet him to "never give up". He's been a service dog and has visited schools and nursing homes. His walker/cart enables him to move, and he lives his life by adapting. He runs, eats, and "plays" with the other dogs in his home.
I interviewed Luke's owners and friends who helped find him/helped with his care after he was found, and also interviewed the vet who worked so diligently to save Luke's life.
What an inspiration for everyone!
