Book: From Shelter To Service Dog - A Practical Guide To Behavioral Rehabilitation by Rick and Heather Dillender
categories: Book, Behavior, Rehabilitation, Service Dog, Positive Reinforcement, Shelter, Therapy Dog, Aggression, Destruction, Hyper-Activity, Fear, Dog TrainingRick Dillender

This text is the product of many years of working successfully with severe issues with hundreds of families. We have also applied this method to behavioral rehabilitation on a large scale in animal rescues, and it is the core philosophy and method in our Service animal training programs for disabilities such as PTSD, epilepsy, diabetes, mobility issues, autism and others.
Using this approach, we have developed a system that allows for adult rescue animals to be paired with individuals with disability and trained for use as service animals. We have worked to educate people as widely as possible about our philosophy and approach, including offering a 12 month instructor training course with certifications in our method and acting as guest lecturers for the Adult Education program in our local library system. We also offer free training for staff and volunteers at no-kill animal rescues in safe and humane handling and leash techniques.
From Shelter To Service Dog provides a complete, easy-to-follow guide for creating a calm, focused and agreeable state of mind in your dog that allows for rehabilitation of behavior and access to advanced training. If applied diligently, any problem can be addressed through this approach. It requires consistency and some effort, but any dog can be helped and any issue can be resolved.
